From lecture series to launch parties for new type families, here is an index of typographic meetups in Paris and their primary organizers.
What’s a “typographic meetup”? This index lists events in the Île-de-France region where one can discuss or hear about typography whether the events are exclusively focused on type or, being centered on graphic design, are tinged with an interest in typography to varying degrees.

Regular meetups:
1 Les jeudis de Lure
By les rencontres de Lure
When Monthly, October to April, 7PM – 9PM

Since 2024, this “typographic rendez-vous for lovers of graphic design, alphabets, and Unicode” has been organized by Les Rencontres de Lure association, held on Thursdays in addition to its traditional annual summer meetings in Provence. Typography is the main but not exclusive subject, alongside graphic design and writing in general.

2 Pratique + Critique lecture series

Since 2012, this series of lectures by practitioners and researchers “aims to offer an expansive vision of graphic design as a field of knowledge and reflection”. While not exclusively about typography, 4 out of 6 guests in 2024–2025 were researchers in the field or type designers.

3 Graphisme.design lecture series

Since 2016, this series initiated in 2007 “focuses more on graphic design and typography applied to multiple media contexts.” While not exclusively about typography, 3 out of 6 guests in 2025–2026 were publishers in the field or type designers.

5 Plateau graphique

Since 2026, each of these evenings designed “to learn everything about graphic design, from print to digital, in the presence of leading figures” is organized around a specific theme. While not exclusively about typography, the first edition brought together major experts from the field.

Since 2010, this 2-day symposium “gathers specialists from various fields surrounding writing and typography, as well as practitioners, typographers, and graphic designers” mainly from French-speaking regions. Typography is the main subject.

Since 2013, this one-day conference series “interrogates the production of new letterforms and questions what drives type designers to renew existing models” featuring international and French practitioners and researchers. Typography is the main subject.

9 Offprint fair

Since 2014, this fair has been “a platform supporting independent and experimental publishers in the fields of art, architecture, design...”. Typography is not the main subject, but many publishers and attendees are closely linked to the field.

In addition to these recurring meetups, there are one-off events such as type family launches and book releases.

All of these meetups (the recurring ones and the one-offs) revolve around five main spheres:
  • higher education & research: Université Paris 8, École Estienne, Campus fonderie de l’image, Bpi (Centre Pompidou), École nationale des chartes 1, Archives nationales 2;

  • type foundries & studios: Typofonderie, Production type 3, Studio Recto Verso & Fonts Ninja, Monotype 4 and others 5;

  • galleries, museums & the conservation field: CNAP, BnF 6, Bibliothèque Mazarine 7, Bibliothèque Forney 2, Musée des arts décoratifs 8 and others 9;

  • publishing: Offprint, Plain text 10, B42 11 and others 12;

  • associations: les rencontres de Lure and others 13.
Finally, several recurring English-language events (hosted by Monotype, Letterform Archives, Ligado Studio, and Words of Type) are accessible online to the Parisian community.

1 From 2023 to 2025, the École Nationale des Chartes hosted an annual lecture series, “Latin Typography: History and Perspectives” led by Alice Savoie, featuring Marc Smith and a professional guest from the typography field at each session. 2 From 2025 to early 2026, the Archives Nationales, the Bibliothèque Forney, École Estienne, and Université Paris 8 launched a lecture series of lectures on the history of printing in France, “Des imprimés et des hommes - nouveaux regards de la recherche.” 3 In 2024 and 2025, Production Type organized occasional meetups for its 10th anniversary, the publication of the “Dossier Jannon” the launch of the “Signes” archives, and the release of the Europa Prima and Ciel type families. 4 The company Monotype hosted “Brand Talks” meetups in Paris in 2023 and 2024. 5 In 2023, the foundry BVH Type hosted a meetup for the launch of its “Dina Chaumont” type family. In 2025, Gwennina Moigne hosted a meetup for the launch of her “Solæ” type family, published by Blaze Type. 6 The BnF regularly offers exhibitions of manuscripts and early printed materials, as well as lectures related to these exhibitions. In 2023, it presented the exhibition “Printing! Gutenberg’s Europe.” 7 The Bibliothèque Mazarine offers exhibitions on printing and sometimes specifically on typography. In 2022, it presented the exhibitions “From Garamont to Garamond(s): a typographic adventure” and “A century of typographic excellence: Christophe Plantin & his workshop (1555-1655).” 8 The Musée des Arts Décoratifs schedules a few lectures by graphic designers each year, and occasionally by type designers. 9 In 2026, École Estienne organized the exhibition “Nebiolo 1878–1978, a century of Italian typography” in its gallery. 10 “Plain Text”, published by the Plain Form foundry, is a magazine dealing with typographic design. In 2025, a launch party for the first issue was held in Paris. 11 B42 is a publishing house that regularly releases books on design and typography, with launches accompanied by meetups. In 2025, a meetup with Victor Guégan took place for the release of his book Après la typographie. 12 In 2025, the fanzine-podcast Graphic Matter which interviews graphic designers and occasionally type designers, hosted a meetup to celebrate its 3rd anniversary. 13 While showing a strong preference for calligraphy, the Barbedore association nonetheless welcomes Anton Moglia for type design workshops in 2026. The Club des DA competition organizes an annual awards ceremony including, among others, a category for typography. The American Type Directors Club competition sometimesorganizes exhibitions of its winners' work in Paris.
